Settled by Scottish and English pioneers in the late 17th century, Small Point, Maine has been, and continues to be a traditional Maine fishing and farming community, nestled in a beautiful peninsula of rocky coast, pocket-beaches, and Boreal forest. As the local fishing community has migrated into the calmer waters of nearby West Point and Sebasco, many the old traditional fishermen's homes have been converted to Summer cottages.
Small Point has a climate all its own - 10 degrees warmer in Winter, 10 degrees cooler in Summer than the nearest big "city" - the shipbuilding town of Bath, about 15 miles north. Much of the area is unspoiled "Conservation Areas" containing important ecological environments for migratory birds, unique forest environments, and the nearby Kennebec river estuary is a breeding ground for Striped Bass.
Since the early 19th century, Small Point has been a vacation getaway for New Englanders. Today, this "little secret" is visited in summer by vacationers from all over the US.
